Cadence

The song sounded –
Familiar;
As you strummed
I started singing along,
Motioning
The way you played it

I’ve heard this before
And I know the end
It’s the kind of song –
That’s like a drug
I need to stop –
Now.

But then you
Took a half step up,
And another,
And another
The dissonance was –
Fading.
Your fingers slid up
And down
The rests were
More apparent
I tried to turn
The internal amplifier
Down
So that none would hear
It was beating
Too fast
A dopamine rush
Because it had become
A lovely song
One I could not
Bear to share
It was ours

Won''t Stop

I had a conversation with a friend of mine the other day, dear Mr. Yearwood. I was telling him how I lost my desire to blog and I don't exactly know why. Maybe I am content keeping a lot of things to myself (or within my circle of friends) and don't feel the need to publicize it. However, I told him I don't want to stop blogging entirely as well. Too much has been written, stuff that has meant so much to me. There has been a lot of emotion vested into my writing and posts. Some less important, some more...

I don't think my style will change significantly, nor will my subject matter. It doesn't matter if anyone even follows this blog anymore. Because this is the space that I have and I intend to use it well...

I wrote a defamiliarization poem for my Creative Writing class a couple weeks back and just thought of sharing it:

The Face of Nature
Your love is the snow,
Sending shivers down my spine
With its beauty.

Your love is the Sun,
Melting away my disbelief
Burning me but I need it to live.

Your love is the sound of thunder,
A deafening roar
That scares me but I can never run away.

Your love is the fire,
That engulfs and consumes
But I am made more alive.

Your love is the rain
Drenching me slowly
Cooling me down

Your love is the silence
That nature echoes,
So that I will believe.

God bless!

to the heart

O restless heart,
Fret not.
It gets better in time, I know, I've been there.

What it takes now is for you to trust-
Trust that He knows what's going on
And everything will work out in His time and way.

Your desires - He comprehend.
His Love compels Him to grant your desires
But not if it isn't what He placed in you Himself.

So come on now,
Take a leap of faith.
You won't regret it.
He will come to the rescue, He will.

The Definition Of Love

One of my favorite poems to date - we covered it in Lit class last year and it always lingered on ever since:

THE DEFINITION OF LOVE.
by Andrew Marvell

MY Love is of a birth as rare
As 'tis, for object, strange and high ;
It was begotten by Despair,
Upon Impossibility.

Magnanimous Despair alone
Could show me so divine a thing,
Where feeble hope could ne'er have flown,
But vainly flapped its tinsel wing.

And yet I quickly might arrive
Where my extended soul is fixed ;
But Fate does iron wedges drive,
And always crowds itself betwixt.

For Fate with jealous eye does see
Two perfect loves, nor lets them close ;
Their union would her ruin be,
And her tyrannic power depose.

And therefore her decrees of steel
Us as the distant poles have placed,
(Though Love's whole world on us doth wheel),
Not by themselves to be embraced,

Unless the giddy heaven fall,
And earth some new convulsion tear.
And, us to join, the world should all
Be cramp'd into a planisphere.

As lines, so love's oblique, may well
Themselves in every angle greet :
But ours, so truly parallel,
Though infinite, can never meet.

Therefore the love which us doth bind,
But Fate so enviously debars,
Is the conjunction of the mind,
And opposition of the stars.

Loneliness

Loneliness- is like a disease
It plagues you once in awhile when you least expect it
When you thought all was well,
When you thought you were fine
And that you didn't need a doctor.

It creeps on you, slowly
And soon enough you feel it
You want to get rid of it
But it doesn't just go away
Sometimes it stays longer than you wish it to.

What can we do?
Do we complain?
Do we question?
Do we stop trusting?
That He will make us well again
That He sees our pain
And will heal us completely
And provide the cure to our loneliness
But no matter what we think will satisfy
There really isn't anything that can cure us of it

None but His love...

Lord, You are enough for me.
I'm trusting in You Lord
You know so much better
I'll wait Lord, I'll wait....

I feel my faith rising as I call upon Your name

feelings

Feelings - they can never be trusted.
I've gone through the cycle again and again
And it all ends up the same.
Gone as if it were never there.
In fact, as I look back at most
I can only ask myself why it started
Yet not understand.

I'm here once again
And it's been awhile at that -
That I've been free from any attachments
Free from the feelings
Sometimes there's pleasure tied to it
When you think of the person ever so frequently
You wonder what he's doing
And if he ever thinks of you
Yet at the end of the day
You only sigh to know
That everything is just in your head
It will never be a reality
The truth certainly hurts.

I want to remind myself of these worthless infatuations
Because when I enter this phase again,
The same illusion begins.
It will seem so important yet turn into
Nothing at the end of the day
How do I tell what's real from what's not?
How do I stop the feelings when it comes so fast?
The answer is not to stop
But not to let it rule
The heart will want to follow
But we are all left with a choice.
The best thing we all can do
Is to submit our feelings
No they won't go away
But He'll take care of it, He will.

When I'm at it again, I'll remember
How it'll all come to nothing once again.
Even if it were to grow into something more,
I'll let Him guide me.
And I'll see what I've never seen before.
Something so beautiful only He can conjure.

it is you

And it's time to face the truth; I will never be with you.

I thought it was over
But I guess sometimes we overlook things
We push away our feelings
Hoping to find a break from it
Thinking maybe; just maybe;
It would be better to think
It wasn't there in the first place

Then in an instant; everything could change
And we end up where we started.
But wait;
Cause it feels different now.
Looking at you no longer hurts
I can accept it now.

How did this happen?
It has to be You.
It is You.
Who else can mend a broken heart
Who else can fill up the emptiness one has
Who else can love with a love that would never run out

Just a few months more; that's all that's left
I'll hold on...
I'll be there
Just hope you know..
